Question: Do I need a primer for my project?
Answer: Use of an appropriate primer will almost always increase bond and may also provide a moisture vapor barrier. For decks and ponds, and when applying to EPDM or other smooth, non-porous materials, primer can be critical to the success of your project
Question: Which primer do I use for my project?
Answer: Use Liquid Rubber EPDM & TPO Primer for EPDM and TPO surfaces and Liquid Rubber Multi-Purpose Primer for Metal, Wood, Concrete, Other coatings (not bitumen/tar) Vinyl, Fiberglass, HDPE and most other materials.

Question: Do I need to use Seam Tape or Geo-Textile for my project?
Answer: Liquid Rubber Seam Tape and Liquid Rubber Geo-Textile are reinforcing tapes used to reinforce your coatings in area's that are subject to expansion and contraction (like joints, cracks, around penetrations, etc.).
These products help prevent the coating from cracking in these "prone" area's and are critical to the long term performance of your waterproofing.
Answer: Liquid Rubber Seam Tape is the premium reinforcement for metal roofs, joints/seams, cracks, and around penetrations on most surfaces. Use Liquid Rubber Geo-Textile on decks and as the cheaper alternative reinforcing fabric on other projects.

Question: What are the product limitations/application temperatures?
Answer: Products must be stored, used and applied as per recommendations.
Answer: Store above 5C/41F in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and do not allow to freeze.
Answer: Apply in temperatures above 10C/50F and rising and below 80% humidity. Apply out of direct intense sunlight do not apply if rain is forecasted within 24 hours. Be sure to allow adequate drying time before dew sets in in the evening, and, that morning dew has burnt off of surfaces before applying in the mornings.
Answer: Surfaces must be free of dirt, dust, debris, mold, mildew, laitance, efflorescence, oil/grease, silicone and coal tar.
Question: Can Liquid Rubber products handle freezing temperatures?
Answer: Yes. Once cured Liquid Rubber products can handle freezing temperatures. Our products have been installed in such places as northern Canada and even in Alaska. Do not allow product to freeze until fully cured. Liquid Rubber products must be stored in temperatures above 5C/41F and applied and cured in temperatures above 10C/50F.
Question: Can Liquid Rubber products handle hot/sunny climates?
Answer: Yes. Liquid Rubber products have been installed in such climates as in Panama, India and Arizona. Do not apply in direct, intense sun. During the hottest days you may have to apply earlier in the day or later in the evening when temperatures are lower.
Question: Are Liquid Rubber products UV stable?
Answer: Yes. Nearly all of our sealants are very UV stable, except for Liquid Rubber Foundation Sealant which is for below grade or not exposed to UV applications, and our primers and the Seam Tape, which is meant to be coated.
Question: Can Liquid Rubber products be applied below grade?
Answer: Yes. Liquid Rubber Foundation Sealant is made for below grade and not exposed to UV applications.
Question: Will coating my wood cause it to rot?
Answer:
Liquid Rubber waterproof coatings/sealants will protect and seal the surface to which it is applied to.
However, the wood is still subject to moisture from uncoated sides. (and uncoated cut edges)
Some environments have more moisture than others and this will need to be taken into account as moisture will evaporate and condense on your wood.
This is why it is also important to consider that you may also need a vapor barrier, drainage systems, and to ensure adequate airflow.
Using proper exterior grade, marine grade, or treated wood and other materials is also important.
Question: What products can be used on a TPO or EPDM roof, and do they require a specific primer??
Answer: For TPO or EPDM roofs, our Liquid Rubber EPDM & TPO Primer is specifically designed to adhere to these surfaces. It is important to use the correct primer, and follow our application processes, to ensure proper product performance. After priming, suitable products for these roof types include our Liquid Rubber Waterproof Sealant and Liquid Rubber Color Sealant, Liquid Rubber Silicone Roof Coating, and Liquid Rubber RV Roof Coating, which provide durable and waterproof finishes.
Question: Can Liquid Rubber products be applied over other paints/coatings/sealants?
Answer: Yes. Liquid Rubber products can be applied over most water-based coatings with proper prep and cleaning. Yes, Liquid Rubber products can often be applied over older oil-based or solvenated products (1 year+), but it is recommended to perform an adhesion test first. You cannot apply over a silicone product (unless you use our Silicone Roof Coating, and an adhesion test is recommended.)
Question: Can I paint over Liquid Rubber products?
Answer: It is better to select one of our colored products if a color is desired. Solvent based paints/coatings may deteriorate our coating (like putting paint thinner on paint). Also, paint will not be able to stretch as much as our coating and may crack and peel (especially for exterior applications).
Question: Can I apply a black product first (Foundation Sealant/Waterproof Sealant/MetalSafe Sealant) then coat over it with a colored product?
Answer: No. It is better to select one of our colored products if a color is desired. The bitumen will bleed through paints and the paint may delaminate in submerged conditions. Also, our products are elastomeric and paints are not, so they may crack and peel as a result of expansion and contraction or other movement.
Question: Can I spray Liquid Rubber products?
Answer: Yes. Liquid Rubber products can be sprayed with the right sprayer.
The sprayer must be capable of spraying an elastomeric coating with Brookfield CPs=12-15000
Silicon rated airless paint sprayer.
Recommended spray equipment is a Graco GH 933 with a Monark 3 GPM drum transfer pump. Minimum 3500 psi output is required at the spray head and minimum 5000 psi output for the spray unit for correct atomization. Hoses need to be a minimum ³⁄4’ ID BUNA-N jacketed for flow and prevention of moisture contamination. The spray gun should be high pressure rated 5000 psi with reverse-a-clean spray tip. With a minimum orifice of .030 and a 50° fan tip. Graco spray gun is model XTR7. Additional Graco models recommended are GH 675DI and Xtreme X70.
Question: Can Liquid Rubber products be applied indoors?
Answer: Yes. Liquid Rubber products are water-based, have no solvents and ultra-low to no-VOCs, so you will not need special breathing apparatus. At most there may be a mild odor that should go away fairly quickly, so you may want to crack a window. Be sure to read the SDS for the specific products you are using.
Question: Are Liquid Rubber products safe?

Question: Can Liquid Rubber products handle ponding water?
Answer: Liquid Rubber NeoPond and Liquid Rubber Waterproof Sealant are designed to handle constant submersion when properly installed. Our other products are meant to be installed on properly built surfaces with proper drainage but can easily withstand regular, intermittent water such as rain or snow.
Question: Can Liquid Rubber be used for potable/drinking water?
Answer: No. We don't manufacture or test products for that use.
Question: How do I store my Liquid Rubber Products for later use?
Answer: Store them in a cool, dry place that is above 5C/41F (do not allow to freeze). If you are storing an opened pail, I would recommend putting some plastic wrap over the lid, and placing a weighted object on the lid to better engage the rubber gasket, before storing in a cool dry place and not allowing to freeze.
Question: How do I clean/store my brushes, rollers, sprayer between coats?
Answer: Brushes and rollers can be wrapped in plastic and kept in a cool place (but not allowed to freeze). If properly sealed and stored, your brushes and rollers should come out fresh for your next application. If you want to clean them, you can use soap and water.
Answer: Sprayers should be flushed with mineral spirits or distilled water between applications and stored in a cool place (but not allowed to freeze) to prevent the material from setting up in the lines/sprayer. (tap water can have salts/minerals that may set up the material. Only use distilled water.)
Question: How long can I store my Liquid Rubber products, what is the shelf life?
Answer: If properly stored, your Liquid Rubber Products should be good for up to 1-2 years.
Answer: It is recommended to purchase your products as needed to ensure they are good for use when needed. Improperly stored and/or opened material may potentially harden.
